Children’s Mental Health Competition Winners!

We are so excited to finally announce our Children’s Mental Health Competition Winners!

Tamana (left) from King Solomon Academy, London, and Rithwin (right) from St Cyres School, Penarth have been chosen as our winners!

Tamana created a fantastic poster which included lots of coping strategies for managing mental health, while Rithwin submitted a beautifully designed written piece, featuring plenty of top tips for improving children’s mental health. Well done both!

Both students will receive a brand new iPad, as well as having their designs brought to life by our designer!

Keep your eyes on your inbox for a competition update, including the finished designs, judges’ feedback and more!

Finally, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who entered our competition. The entries were absolutely amazing and our judges had a tough time choosing the winners!

New Team Member!

We would like to say a big Sweet welcome to Amy, who is joining us as an Internal Quality Assurer.

After completing her Textiles degree in Manchester, Amy worked in the financial sector for four years. She later moved back home to Wales in order to train as a Design and Technology teacher.

Amy taught for 11 years in two of South Wales’s top secondary schools, specialising in Textiles, Photography and Product Design.

In 2019, she took on the role of Principal Examiner for Fashion and Textiles.

Amy said: “Whilst teaching remotely throughout the pandemic, I have focused on my passion for creating exciting and pupil-friendly teaching resources. My experiences in teaching and examining have given me the opportunities to refine these skills and I am keen to contribute to the Personal Growth and Wellbeing programme offered by Sweet. This is an area that I feel passionate about and I believe that in current times is more important than ever for learners.”

In her spare time, Amy loves learning new crafts and finding ways to explore her creative side.

Welcome to the team Amy, we are delighted to have you!

Sweet Centre of the Term

“Fantastic support from our IV who goes over and above to accommodate .”

Cefn Hengoed Community School in Swansea have been part of the Sweet family since 2017. We’re incredibly grateful to this wonderful school for taking some time to speak to us about why they love the programme.

What is it about Sweet that made you want to work with us? It seemed like an enjoyable qualification that all our learners could access.

What about the Sweet programme did you find most appealing?

The points that it was worth, and the moderation process.

What trends or issues in your setting drove the need for Sweet? What were you looking for in a solution?

We needed a practical qualification that all learners could access regardless of academic ability.

What have you been most impressed with?

The support from the Sweet Team.

What has been the best thing about working with Sweet?

The pupils enjoy the course.

How would you describe the quality of support and supporting resources from Sweet?

Fantastic support from our IV who goes over and above to accommodate and support. Supporting materials are easy to follow and save staff teaching Sweet time as they do no need to make their own resources.

What have you enjoyed about teaching Sweet in your setting?

Seeing that the pupils enjoy it, and helping them develop skills that will help them in the future such as CV building and finance.

What have your students enjoyed about Sweet? They have enjoyed working independently. Year 11 pupils especially enjoyed searching for jobs and making their CV. Morgan (last year’s Year 11) said: “Studying Sweet has helped me develop my confidence, especially with applying for jobs.”

And finally, would you recommend Sweet? Yes! It is an enjoyable qualification that is straight forward and accessible to all pupils, regardless of ability. We also had lots of support from our IV.
