About WorkSkills

What is WorkSkills and how can I run it?

WorkSkills is a BTEC qualification that provides students with essential skills to succeed in a professional environment, focusing on teamwork, job applications, being entrepreneurial and career progression. Sweet will run WorkSkills at both level 1 and level 2. As with the PGW, we will provide teacher training, ready-made student workbooks, a full IQA service, and additional materials to help you deliver the qualification. The full offer will launch in September 2024.

Training

WorkSkills training will be held via Teams during September. As we will be running group sessions rather than individual sessions, training will be charged at an initial discounted rate of £50 per staff member in attendance (this will be invoiced after booking).

You can now book onto training using this link. Please book a session with your current Sweet IQA. To do this, filter by staff member and look for their availability (highlighted in blue). Each IQA will be running 1 x morning session and 1 x afternoon session, so please choose the time that best suits you. If you do not know who your IQA is or if you are unable to attend a session with your own IQA, please email info@sweet.education before booking.

Resources

Students will complete the WorkSkills qualification using our brand-new workbooks, designed by the Sweet team and ready for you to use from September. View a sample of the activities here.

Although we had planned to launch a fully online qualification, the majority of responses that we received from our customer survey indicated that schools don’t have the capacity for this. So we listened to your feedback and made the change to physical workbooks instead!

You can pre-order workbooks from the end of June at www.sweet.education/shop. You can choose to buy individual workbooks at £4 each, or buy a set of six workbooks for £21.95. Please note that sets of workbooks will now come without a boxfile, as we are trying to reduce our carbon footprint and keep prices as low as possible for our customers. Workbooks will be delivered in September.

Registrations

Once you have had training and received your books, you will need to register your learners for the WorkSkills qualification. There are several sizes of qualification available, so please check which is the right one for your learners. Information on qualification sizes is available in our leaflets which you can access here for Wales and here for England. You will receive more information on levels and sizes of qualifications during training.

Once registered, you’ll receive full IQA support, and you’ll also gain access to a folder of additional materials to help you deliver the WorkSkills qualification.
